56K Leased Line
Suitable Uses: Small offices can often use this level
of connection. This service may also be suitable for a small ISP, subject to certain
additional conditions. Please see the section on Dialup Access Provider Accounts
below on this page.
Pacific
Bell Charges: Please note that we cannot quote actual Pacific Bell
charges, and that they can vary significantly for a 60-month contract. You may also
save on monthly charges by signing a long contract, but if you cancel service before the
end of the term, you will be expected to pay the difference. For an accurate quote
on Pacific Bell services, you must contact Pacific Bell or an authorized
representative. We can refer you to an authorized representative for most of our
service area.
Foggy.net
Setup Charges: Unlike most Internet Service Providers, Foggy.net
includes the use of a router and TSU for the duration of your connection in the setup
charge. We will furnish, configure, maintain, and monitor this equipment (which
remains the property of Foggy.net) at no further charge to you for as long as you remain
connected to our system. We will come to your site, connect the router to Ethernet
based LAN, and connect the TSU to the Smart Jack provided by Pacific Bell, and verify that
all components work correctly. You can configure your individual workstations, or
Foggy.net can configure them for you at our regular technician rate of $75/hour. Our
technician can show you how to do these configurations on future or additional
workstations.
Recurring
Charges: To provide you with the best service for your needs, Foggy.net
prices individual parts of the service separately. You will need Internet access
(called a "port charge"), and a block of IP addresses or a class C
address. Since our costs are traffic-based, we assess an additional charge for high
usage. The first gigabyte (1,000 megabyte) of traffic per month is included in the
port charge, and traffic above one gigabyte per month is handled for $0.05/megabyte.
Ordinarily this will only affect large industrial users.

T-1 Leased Line
Suitable Uses:
Industrial
users, larger offices, and schools often use this type of connection. Almost all of
the remarks and descriptions about 56K lines apply to T-1 service -- except the bandwidth
is MUCH greater. A single T-1 line has from 24 to 28 times the capacity of a 56K
line and about 12 times the capacity of an ISDN connection. See also the section on
Dual Access Provider Accounts below.
Pacific Bell
Charges: As with 56K lines, the exact cost will depend on several factors, and each
connection must be quoted individually. We can arrange for service through an
authorized representative on your behalf, or you can arrange your own service. In
some cases, frame relay service may be appropriate, and may save some costs.
Installation charges are often rather high, but are sometimes waived if you agree to a
long contract.
Foggy.net Setup
Charges: Foggy.net provides the same kind of service for T-1 customers as for 56K
customers, but using equipment with additional capacity. If you were to upgrade from
56K to T-1 service, all the equipment would be changed, and a new setup fee would
apply. If you compare the various prices, you will see that if you contemplate such
an upgrade, it is almost always wise to install T-1 service from the beginning.
Recurring
Charges: As you can see, this level of service, once established, is likely to be much
more economical than the alternatives. For this bandwidth, the class C address is
often more appropriate than smaller blocks of 16 addresses. If security is a
significant concern, it may be that the use of a proxy server and private IP address is
more appropriate. Some administration will be required, but the recurring charges
would be less.

ISDN
Suitable
Uses: Medium sized offices, schools, or those running a
specialized or medium-traffic Web server can often use ISDN bandwidth effectively.
See also the section on Dialup Access Provider below.
Pacific
Bell Charges: Rates vary widely for ISDN service, and it is not
available in all locations. Call your local Pacific Bell for more information.
Foggy.net
Setup Charges: For multiple users, you will need and ISDN router
installed at your site. If you purchase a router from us, we will install and
configure it for you at no additional charge. You may acquire your own router if you
prefer, and we'll assist you with configuration, but there may be an additional charge if
we encounter difficulties.
If you use your ISDN connection for
only one machine, an ISDN modem will be satisfactory.
