described in preceding sections on this page, provides access to the Internet. To
maintain your own Web site, you need into the Internet. We can provide you this
access or you can use any other access provider and host your domain with Foggy.net.
To maintain your Web site on our UNIX servers, you will use ftp and connect to the
Foggy.net ftp server using your domain login and password. We also make available an
Cobalt server with FrontPage extensions enabled for a small surcharge. Cobalt is
inherent UNIX, and there are some well-known security problems, but the great convenience
is often worth the cost.

Domain
Parking
Domains are
registered with InterNIC, the international central registration organization. Our
setup charge includes doing all the work to get your domain registered, but does not
include the separate fee that InterNIC charges for registration. Currently their fee
is $70 for the first year and $35/year thereafter. They invoice separately, and will
come directly to you. If you do not intend to make any use of an domain name but
want to hold it for future use, we will establish and maintain a "Start of
Authority" (SOA) record at Foggy.net. InterNIC will not register a domain name
unless there is an SOA that they can query, and that responds correctly. Although
the fee is not refundable, you can convert to domain hosting at any time, and the entire
unused portion of your fee will be applied to domain hosting charges.
Traffic
Foggy.net
is charged for services based on usage. To be fair to all our users, those few large
sites that produce an exceptional amount of traffic are charged for it. One Gigabyte
is a LOT of traffic. If your site gets this much traffic, you are so successful that
you should be delighted to pay the extra charges.
Disk
Space
The first 40 megabytes of disk space for your domain Web pages and
data are included in the domain hosting fee. Large sites may use more space.
There is no upper limit on the amount of space we can provide.
FrontPage
Extensions on Cobalt Server
Many page developers now use Microsoft FrontPage as a development
tool. We fully support the Microsoft FrontPage extensions by hosting domains on a
Cobalt server. Our Cobalt Server is dedicated to this purpose and no other, so it
performs at least as well as any other Cobalt Server - but UNIX servers are inherently
much faster. If you need the extensions, this service is for you. If you need
the highest performance from the server, try to program the site using standard
HTML. If you choose to use our Cobalt Server, you MUST use Microsoft FrontPage to
maintain your web site.
Programming
The staff at Foggy.net includes analysts with up to 25 years of experience individually,
and over 100 years of experience combined. We can create and install very
sophisticated Web sites using CGI scripting, or program custom applications using C, Perl,
Microsoft Access, and other tools. You can write your own scripts and applications,
but they must be reviewed by our programmers, at the regular programming hourly rate,
before installation.
